About

Who am I?

I am an American from Oregon who enjoys writing music and playing clarinet in concert band. I'm married to an avid trombone player who trombonifies my life.

My musical resume

I took piano lessons in elementary school and clarinet lessons in middle school through college. I played in concert bands from middle school until my last semester of college, where I played with the Oregon State University (OSU) Symphonic Wind Ensemble and minored in music.

After briefly playing with the Grand Street Community Band in New York City, I went to grad school for something other than music and I only participated in a few musical events for several years. But now I'm done with grad school and in De Bazuin, a Dutch concert band.

Highlights of my musical life:

  • playing solos at Western International Band Clinic 2003
  • playing the solo part in "Hungarian Rhapsody" at OSU
  • busking with Karena Dokken (clarinet) in downtown Corvallis
  • playing at Carnegie Hall with the OSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble
  • every concert with every concert band :)
I started using Garageband to compose music when I was in high school, and have continued off and on ever since using Logic Pro X. A lot of my work is somewhat dark, and with a steady, driving rhythm. I used to be more into techno music, but now I'm trying to write funkier things.

What inspires you?

Many artists inspire me, like Lights, STRFKR, Debussy, Madeon, Beethoven, Clarinet Factory, Floex, and people in my life. But my specialty is improvising one note at a time on the keyboard, to other notes I prerecorded. I could not make my music without modern technology (Garageband and Logic) that allows me to hear all of the instruments at once.

Here is a collection of Facebook pages of artists who inspire me:
